Again, Indosat Reshuffles Director and Commissioners

Indosat, a second largest cellular operator in Indonesia just reshuffled its director and commissioners. Kaizad B Heerjee, a director from ST Telemedia was replaced by Laszlo Imre Barta. Kaizad will be officially inactive since May 2010. In board of commissioners, two of them were replaced. The independent commissioners, Setyanto P. Sentosa and Michael Latimer were replaced by Alexander Rusli and Chris Kanter respectively.

This is the second time of high level management reshuffled since Indosat bought by Qatar Telecom (QTel) on June 2008.  The first reshuffled was made on June 2009.

Below are the complete list Indosat board of directors up to 2012:

- Harry Sasongko Tirtotjondro, President Director and Chief Executive Officer (since August 11th, 2009)
- Peter Wladyslaw Kuncewicz, Director & Chief Finance Officer (since September 1st, 2009)
- Laszlo Imre Barta, Director and Chief Commercial Officer (effective April 30th, 2010)
- Stephen Edward Hobbs, Director and  Chief Technology Officer (since June 11th, 2009)
- Fadzri Sentosa, Director and  Chief Wholesale and Infrastructur Officer (since June 11th, 2009)
- Guntur S. Siboro, Chief Marketing Officer
- Syakieb A. Sungkar, Chief Sales Officer

And the board of commissioner up to  2012:

Till the end of 2009, Indosat serves around 33.1 million subscribers and it is facing a tight competition from XL who try to be the second largest cellular operator in Indonesia.

Indosat Leads in Mobile Internet Service

According to InMobi Network Research data, Indosat the second largest cellular operator in Indonesia leads the mobile internet service with the market share almost 75%. Indosat mobile data service serves almost 3 million subscribers. This figures is far higher than Telkomsel and XL.

From this 3 million subscribers, Indosat gets IDR 1.4trillion or equivalent to 15.6% of its total revenue in first semester 2009. This figures is slightly higher than the 2008 figures with just IDR 1.28 trillion.

InMobi also noted that the young people (18-27 years) are the highest (53%) customers of mobile internet and 82% of the users are men.

For your information, Indosat has served mobile data services since a few years ago ahead of its competitors.

Indosat Launch a New Satellite in China

Indosat (Indonesian Satellite Corporation), the second biggest cellular operator in Indonesia will launch its new communication satellite, named Indosat Palapa-D, in Xichang, Southwest China, today August 31st, 2009. Indosat Palapa-D will replace Palapa-C which will end its operation time in 2011. Palapa-D has been designed since 2004 and is expected to orbit for 15 years.

Palapa-D is made by Thales Alenia Space France with the platform of Spacebus-4000B3. PALAPA-D has 120% capacity higher than Palapa-C. Beside that, Palapa-D can cover ASEAN countries, several Asia countries, middle east and Australia. This satellite has 4100kg in weight and at the launch time consume 7500 watt power. Indosat uses the China Academy of Launch Vehicle Technology (CALT) service to launch the satellite.

Indosat will make use this satellite to broadcasting services, cellular backhaul services, VSAT service, DigiBouquet and Telecast Service as value added services to serve corporate customers in data communication and broadcasting. Indosat also uses this satellite for as backbone for other services such as cellular, fixed phone and fixed data. For your information, Indosat is the company which has almost all telecommunication services such: cellular, both GSM/3G and CDMA, fixed, long distance, international gateway, satellite, and data.

Indonesia Indosat’s H1 profit jumps 25 pct

JAKARTA, Aug 28 (Reuters) – Indonesia’s second-largest listed telecommunications company, PT Indosat Tbk ISAT.JK, reported on Thursday a 24.9 percent rise in its first-half net profit, outperforming the earnings of its bigger rival Telkom over the period.

Indosat, which signed up 7.9 million new mobile phone users in the first half, close to its 8 million target, revised up its full year target for new users to 12 million.

The firm, which is around 40 percent owned by Qatar Telecom QTEL.QA, said in a statement net profit for the January-June period was 1.06 trillion rupiah ($115.8 million) compared to a revised figure of 845.1 billion rupiah for the previous year. (more…)
